WHAT IS EXTREME SINGING? ANY VOCAL EFFECTS SUCH AS TWANG, BELT AND DISTORTION THAT CAN ADD A POWERFUL OFTEN “SIGNATURE” SOUND TO THE VOICE

Learning Extreme Singing can help me do what?

As a young musician/vocalist I was classically trained at a very young age. I was naturally gifted and classical music was easy for me. Teachers would often refer to vocal technique at that time as a pendulum. “We take you to an extreme vocal technique and then your voice will settle into a solid and strong vocal line.” This approach was very effective for me and I have referred to this style of teaching often while teaching other styles as well. After training extensively classically, I joined a Rock Band for a short time and then broke off and became a wedding singer summers while I finished my Music Degree. It amazed me that my voice naturally loved to sing artists like Pat Benatar, Blondie and Heart. Now I realize that my classical training gave me the warmth and resonance necessary to create those big sounds! Learning to scream, grunt and growl, though extreme, like the pendulum theory, will aid you in finding the grit and growl needed to create your signature sound. So what is extreme singing? For most, the answer is any vocal effects such as twang, belting and distortion that add a powerful and often “signature” quality to the voice. In my studio this is what truly separates a good student and an artist. My goal is to create artists. If you choose Nuance Vocals you will have an opportunity to become an artist. Of course much of that is in your hands if you put in the time and effort it takes to make this happen.

Why CHOOSE NUANCE VOCAL

There are many teachers who can teach you to sing, but can your teacher teach you the small nuances necessary to safely sing in all styles. Famous last words of many voice teachers: “If you can sing in a nice BelCanto Vocal line you can sing anything”. Not true! My vast experience studying Classical, Belt, Speech Level, Flow Phonation, Mix and Extreme Singing has made it possible for me to know where my students have come from and helps me to get you quickly to where you want to be vocally. Knowing where you’ve come from Vocally helps me as a teacher know the best way for you to move forward. My students progress very quickly because I know where they’ve been. I can communicate in a clear and concise way in their vocal language. Those who come to my studio will not experience a rigid environment where only one method is taught. I give the student what they need unrestrained by a Vocal Method that has required me to teach in that method and that method only. Open yourself up to the whole vocal picture. Learn and progress using many different methods at Nuance Vocals.

Record and Release Music Recorded and produced at NVS

All students receive recording sessions at NVS. This is a great tool in helping students understand what’s required in studio and also helps students progress vocally. Students who become artists are invited to release their recorded songs on Spotify and iHeart radio.

Performance background

Early in my vocal career I was able to sing as one of the leads in a Rock Band. We played events throughout the Salt Lake Valley. During that time I sang Jazz, Gospel, Pop and Rock. I have also had lead roles in musicals, dinner theaters, classical works and recital forums.   My vocal life has been a journey of discovery over the years. Many singers can sing in many styles, but have not taken the time to learn how to teach in all styles. Certifying in Mix, Extreme Singing and receiving my Vocal Music Degree has granted me and my students the knowledge needed to fulfill any Pop, Jazz, Gospel, Rock, Musical Theater, or Classical vocal needs.

Take time to educate yourself

Remember when looking for a teacher that not all teachers are created equally. If you, your son or your daughter want to sing classical music then work with a classical teacher. If they want to sing pop or musical theater work with a teacher with the correct background, education and certifications necessary to reach their goals! Seems logical...
